Thank you very much for the sympathetic and thoughtful feedback. I was worried that this post was too dark and cynical, but strangely it’s had more resonance than most of my posts where on some level I’m showing off. After 20 years, I’ve largely internalized my own sense of value of the work, however I know the mind can play nasty tricks, equating a minimal reception with no worth to the created works. But here there’s also nuance, because you do need to honestly challenge yourself to get your work to where you want it to be, and then go beyond that. While it largely doesn’t exist today, I can at least look back at the creative intersection of music and photography and find stunningly good, culturally impactful work.
